“To some, materiality suggests ideas about surface and form because of the material’s inherent properties, but also, and more importantly, because of the way material seems to contain or to have absorbed unique information meaningful to whoever makes contact with it.

‑Warren Seelig, Thinking Outloud: Contemporary Fiber, Material Meaning

Objects display the effects of time. We see their purpose through worn surface, which serve as remnants and reminders of passing time. Textures presented as worn surfaces are part of the mundane. They are often overlooked; but so much beauty can be found from textures like rotting wood, moss growing on tree bark, or cracks in the sidewalk.

Drawing from textural inspiration, I strive to create work that incorporates textures in a new environment that shares and highlights its qualities. The audience creates a connection to my work through haptic and sensorial experience.  By utilizing fiber materials, like wool or felt, I am able to enhance the tactile quality that is meant to be experienced. I strive to create an immersive environment that engages the audience through material manipulation accompanied by projected image. The projected image animates abstracted textural designs creating interactions between the material, audience, and space and allowing the audience to consider their own relationship to the textures. The abundance of material manipulation and color interaction, engage the audience with tactility and touch by exaggerating the material and texture.
